I put the rice into the strainer, hold it under the faucet, and rinse the rice well. This has been the fastest, and most convenient manner that I have found to accomplish this task.
This strainer is very well constructed,as well as being quite streamlined, and beautiful.
I highly recommend this strainer!

Seriously, this little strainer is that good.
No more pierced fingers from metal mesh strainers coming out of the edges. No more trying to scrape mashed goop out of those little fine-mesh holes.
This strainer works great and looks great. When it's time to empty it, just walk it to the trash can and "pop" it inside out. Bingo! It's completely empty. A quick rinse and you're all set. You'll never again have to take a brush to a disgusting fine-mesh metal strainer.

The handle does not fold down so this makes it cumbersome to fit neatly into cupboard along side pots & pans (where you would want to keep it for use) I choose to go with the flat (no handle) silicone splatter shields instead. They come in different sizes and clean up very well.

(More customer reviews)I didn't think they made these any more. I don't know why the other screen makers think that no one ever uses a skillet smaller than 10 inches. "Are you listening All-clad, Cuisipro, OXO, Amco etc?
This screen fits my 8" skillet perfectly with little overlap. I can use it on a burner with another pan next to it. It has a steel frame with an expanded metal mesh made of aluminum. It blocks splatter without trapping steam. I took a chance and bought three of these. I'm glad I did.
The screen I used for years was just like it except my old one had a plastic handle. I finally had to toss it after leaving it on a gas burner.
They also have screens in a larger size. Alegacy SS10 10 5/16" Fine Mesh Steel Splatter Screen.
I recently bought a Cuisipro Cuisipro 11.5" Splatter Guard which I gave three stars. It's too large and too expensive. The Cuisipro may be more durable, but my old screen lasted 15 years.Given a chance to do it over again, I'd buy the Alegacy product instead of the Cuisipro... Or any other of the other brand name screens.

Norpro Grip-EZ Red Silicone Splatter Screen Strainer Review

(More customer reviews)I love kitchen silicone products because they are easy to clean and heat resistant. I even use silicone spatula for frying as it doesn't scratches the pan surface.
We have been using the metal splatter screen for years. I never like it and have been considering a silicone screen since I saw them online. The only thing bothering me is the difference in their prices. The metal mesh is very cheap. The metal screen is very messy after each and every use; it is also hard to clean. After a while the seams break and expose wires on the edge which annoyingly get caught with the dish sponge when you clean it.
13" in diameter, which is large, which is good as you want to cover the top of your larger pans. Nice looking. Rated at 500 degree Fahrenheit. The silicone is stretched tight (no sag) on a heavy gauge metal frame. The frame is not visible as it is covered entirely by silicone. The grip is also made of silicone which won't slip on your hands and stays cool during frying. Dishwasher safe. Made in China for Norpro, USA.
Update:
I tried this for steaming dimsums or potstickers. Put water on a pan, put the dimsums on top and cover with a light pan cover. I don't want to use heavy lids as it may sag the silicone (or maybe I am just a bit paranoid). But, it worked great. Easier to clean than my steamer.
Cons:
The holes are a bit large that some oil tends to escape out.

Oxo Good Grips Splatter Screen with Folding Handle Review

(More customer reviews)You have to be careful when you lift it off the pan that you keep it horizontal because if you raise it to a vertical position, it will double back and you will risk getting hot grease, or hot water/steam on you.
As far as the amount of splatter control, I don't find that it is a lot better than normal splatter screens. I have to lay a paper towel over the top while frying as there still is too much splatter.
I find that the fitting on top of pans is about somewhat better than a regular splatter screen, but not as good as I was expecting.
I bought a new dishwasher that the racks are adjustable, but it still will only fit in one place in my dishwasher or it will flop around.
