(More customer reviews)This is a high quality piece of furniture. It's very attractive. There is nothing cheap about this unit. Solid construction, attention to detail and a high quality finish. The cherry finish is very warm. I did not see the oak finish.
It revolves smoothly, solidly and quietly. It's a very functional design with one open shelf and two shelves behind curved glass doors. The curves doors are a nice touch; they fit together perfectly and open easily. Good ventilation and wire control.
I've been looking for a while and this is the nicest unit I've seen. It' a little higher priced than other units, but I feel like I got 100% of my money's worth. My wife loves it, too!

(More customer reviews)Great stand, very attractive purchased through Amazon. Plan to tape black poster board to the back sections to hide wiring and large JBL sub in this corner installation. Suspect there will be a dust issue since the front is open without doors. This unit is composed of a thick glass top and bottom painted flat black on unexposed sides to give an elegant look.
Since the unit is so wide, I will be able to place the center channel speaker in the center section and the left and right speakers in the upper sections left and right. Shelves are not high enough to permit vertical placement of these speakers but that is ok. There is still room for the receiver, cable box, ps3 and VHS player in the lower left and right sections. Indeed with all this space the whole system with a new 65" plasma (tcp65v10) will take up less space than my 57" DLP with all the components on the top and sides.
It looks to be very easy to put together. Single sheet 3D instructions are sufficient and it will go fast. Only construction issue is the top and bottom plate are very heavy so a second back is useful for the step where the bottom is lifted in place. The unit comes in a 40# box and a 90# box.
OK, Here is the rub. The 90# box that contains the large glass top and bottom came with the glass shattered. Stacks and Stacks promptly sent me another 90# box unfortunately it was damaged also! Since the contents of the box are so heavy, I destroyed the packaging getting the heavy components out of the box and did not initially see the damage. This second shipment included the top section that has small 2 1/2" by 1/2' metal discs with one of them knocked off and a second fractured. I have contacted S&S hoping they will make this right and send yet another 90# box. If they do and it is intact, they will get a positive rating from me. Otherwise I will spend a few minutes and blast them. Trans deco is the supplier and they and their shippers should take better care. I guess my advice is order at your own risk and this probably goes for any glass stand.

The bottom line is this unit completely rocks. I compared it to the Sony SXRDs and the JVC 1080P ILAs - both are 1080P displays but will not accept a 1080P signal. The picture is incredible - truely like an 8 megapixel photo in HD. Even Home Theater Mag rated its performace (96) higher than the Sony (94), JVC (92) and all the DLP (< 90) units in its 2/2006 HDTV face off. But remember its a monitor not a TV so you'll need to either have a cable box, sat receiver, computer or external tuner. Actually this is one monitor which you can hook everything up to since it has 5 HD inputs. I've only found one weakness - sometimes when switching between sources it sometimes looses sinc and goes pink - but its easily fixed by switching again to another source and back.

Advanced On-Wall TV Installation and Mounting Review

(More customer reviews)(Please see my update at the end) Zip is a pathetic excuse for the term 'service'. They were prompt and polite in setting up an appointment. For that I'll give them one star. The installers called a day prior to confirm day and time as well as make sure that I had a cable they said I'd need that wasn't included in the cost. I did. I should have suspected something when the Installer who called, did so using a land line in a sports bar.
Our 3:00 to 5:00 appointment slipped to their arrival at 7:30 with several "We're on our way and will be there very soon" calls. When they did arrive, they were missing parts. The main Tech didn't like the support I chose from Amazon.com because he said it would be difficult to hang the TV strait. I offered to lend him my level. They rescheduled, asking me to order $70+ in extra parts, which required expedited shipping costs to get in time.
Note that when I complained to Amazon.com, asking if they could offer any discount on the expedited shipping, they threw their hands up and said "It's not our problem."
Less than 24 hours prior to the second appointment, I got another call from Zip. The caller said that because the installers offered to run the electrical wire through the wall in addition to the other wires, it would take them 4.5 additional hours and an extra person. Note that the installer didn't even have the molding included in the original order on their truck when they came. That would have been fine. No, now they wanted an additional $300.
I asked that they cancel. Zip said, "No problem, You weren't even charged yet." I just checked my credit card online and I was charged. I'm thankful that I paid with a credit card that offers decent service so I can block payment if I don't get a credit.
I checked Angieslist.com and found that I could hire an installer for about $300 who would do the complete job, including parts, on time. What an annoying waste of time. Nightmare.Update 12/22/10:
I'm updating the review and raising my rating from one to three stars because I'm impressed at the response from Zip Installation.
First of all, Amazon reiterated that they have no responsibility for the services of this company, apologized for my troubles and promptly refunded my payment for installation but not for expedited parts shipment.
Second, the V.P. of Operations over at Zip called, apologized and offered to send out a different installer to do the job at no charge. Now that's service! However, I'd already installed the power bridge and cables in-wall and mounted the TV myself (with a little help lifting the 60-lb TV onto the mount). Still, the V.P. of Operations was very interested in my experience, noted a number of changes he planned to implement to their processes and promised me that their technicians arrived on time, with parts and no extra charges over 90% of the time.
Notes:
1 - If you're interested in adding installation to your order and want a no-fuss out of wall install with paintable moldings to hide your cables Zip is probably the easiest way to get the job done.
2 - If you want your cables in-wall, do a little research first. Some area building codes allow a homeowner or TV installer to run a power bridge (to add an outlet directly behind your TV) through a wall and some don't. That's probably why Zip only offers molding to hide your power cord as an orderable service on Amazon (no mention of power bridge). Depending on where you live, you may need to hire a certified electrician to get your power through the wall and to your TV. Check out the "How to Install Your TV" videos on YouTube to get an idea of what it would take to do the install you're looking for. Don't take a cost increase or service reduction for an answer. Ask for options. When I made my appointment, I was OK with the molding and didn't even know what a power bridge was.
3 - Prepare. The V.P. at Zip told me that the initial questions their rep will ask when making an appointment will be more thorough and better communicated to the installer in the future. You don't want your cables hidden within molding or behind your wall only to find out that you're short a cable. Depending on your set-up; cable box or antenna, surround sound and other components, you'll need different connections. Read your manuals and diagram your cables prior to installation. Don't count on the Installer or person scheduling your appointment to know the details of your media center configuration.
4 - It is possible for a homeowner to do their own install. I'm a 40-something mother of two with some construction experience gleaned from volunteer work including Habitat for Humanity. A 10-part "How to Install a TV Over a Fireplace" video on YouTube gave me a good idea on the most difficult installation I'd be likely to find. The power bridge ordered through Amazon had complete instructions. I used a stud finder and some painters tape to see what the installation was likely to entail and figured I'd do it myself since my specific case was much simpler than I'd imagined.
5 - My Installer arrived without the necessary parts and then offered a more expensive option. If you're not comfortable with the Technician who comes to your home, call Zip. If you've ever hired a contractor for a remodel or even a smaller job, you know that some are fantastic and others pathetic. The VP at Zip told me that they go through a rigorous screening process but that this particular Technician didn't have a track record with their organization. Zip, according to their rep, is willing to send out someone else if necessary.
Overall, Zip is a reasonably priced installation service for your new HDTV. They were able to schedule an appointment so that our HDTV should have been installed in time for our teen-age daughter's "Movie Night". Each time I talked with a Zip employee, I got someone in the USA who was professional, knowledgeable, helpful and didn't have an accent I couldn't understand.

Having heard and read about DaLite in various places, I thought I would give them a try for my home theater set-up.
Ordered the screen and when I installed it carefully as per specifications (using professional gear including levels), I was sorely disappointed to see that the fabric did not hang properly and had ripples across the viewing surface.
Contacting DaLite service is not easy (despite their warranty) as they insist on your contacting the retailer and the retailer generally not understanding the problem or being sufficiently responsive. Anyway, finally they sent me a replacement screen.
I thought I would forgive and forget their initial defective shipment (after all, we all make mistakes). So, with positive thoughts, I opened and installed the second screen with again a lot of care and time.
Guess what - the problem was not only there, it was WORSE this time. This tells me that this company has a poorly controlled manufacturing process and their quality review is minimal to non-existent. It seems that being in a near monopoly situation does lead to complacency and shoddy standards. I would thus sadly recommend to all to look elsewhere for a quality product - and not waste significant amounts of time with installation and customer service over a poorly manufactured product.

P.S. In addition to the above fundamental issue, there is a major problem with retracting the screen - no matter how careful you are. Again, suggests a poor/basic design that has not been improved given their monopoly position.

SANUS SYSTEM Flat Panel TV Stand Furniture ( Platinum ) Review

(More customer reviews)Like most people, I was excited to buy a plasma TV just because it is wall mountable. But realistically, I didn't want to drill huge holes in my wall, nor pay $500 for it to be professionally installed. And I soon came to realize that even if I did mount the TV on the wall, I would still need to have a tacky looking AV stand for all of my other components. This stand solved all of my problems! It's sturdy, looks great, is reasonably priced, and it's easy to assemble.
When the package arrived, the box was trashed badly from shipping. I'm convinced that UPS was the one to re-tape the whole thing together because I found a box cutter inside the box. Though, to my surprise, because SANUS packaged the product so well (lots of styrofoam), nothing was damaged. Inside the package is the base, the shelves, hardware needed to mount the TV including allen wrenches (all you need to supply is a monkey wrench and a phillips screwdriver) and an extra set of black feet for the stand (the base comes with silver feet attached). The base is a glossy black, and the glass shelves are tinted.
Putting this stand together was easier than anything I've ever purchased from IKEA (takes no more than half an hour including unpacking the box). Every bolt and screw is labeled, and the manual is detailed. It looks intimidating at first, but you only end up using half of the supplied bolts/washers/etc. I recommend mounting the TV before screwing the glass shelves into the post and hooking up components for ease of mobility. An extra hand is helpful, but I was able to mount a 42" plasma by myself.
The mounting bracket and shelves are adjustable and can move vertically up and down the post, but must be done so by unscrewing the bolts that hold them in place. The TV can be tilted up and down, but not side to side (this can be done without unmounting the TV).
Just to give you an idea of how many components you can fit on the stand, I have a speaker on the top shelf, cable box and PS2 on the middle shelf, and receiver, TiVo, and DVD player on the base. I don't have room for any more though.
Considerations: There isn't much room inside the post to put all of your cables. And it's not the easiest task either - actually took me longer to thread the cables through than put the stand together. But realistically, the only cables that need to go inside are those that connect directly to your TV. The rest of your cables (ie. DVD to receiver etc.) will be hidden behind your components. Also, you should only have to do this once upon set up, so in the end it is well worth it.
Which brings me to my next topic - if you have a lot of components and a lot of wires, it becomes more difficult to hide them visibly because this is not an encased stand. It helps if you use HDMI to cut back on the number of cables you have, or if you have short cables and don't have a lot of bunched up excess wiring. Luckily, my solution was to put this stand in the corner of the room, so you can't really see anything from the side view.
All in all it was well worth every penny (and I was skeptic about spending $300+ on such a simple looking piece of furniture). The cheapest price by far was online through Amazon. I would by this stand again in a heartbeat. Amazingly, my TV looks bigger mounted on this stand than it did sitting on my old one. My only regret is that I didn't purchase this stand sooner!
EDIT: It is now nearing the end of 2008, almost 2 years later. I still use this stand and still think this stand is great. It even withstood a U-haul move. But, flat panel TV's are much more affordable and main stream than they were a few years ago. Having said that, when I was looking for a 'mountable' stand back then, I didn't have many options. Now, you can find a decent one at Walmart for $100 that even swivels. I do still think it's a great stand that looks much better than many I see today, but the steep price tag makes it less attractive now when there are cheaper alternatives.
But, you'll be glad to know I've also purchased a new TV since then, and this stand accommodated the larger size while still using the same brackets and screws from my last TV (both comply w/ VESA standards).

The piece that attaches to the studs in the wall is level and in very sturdy but the extending arm is slowly leaning down and it's an LED tv...not heavy. When chatted with a customer service rep at Amazon (the seller) below is what happened.

The several universal holes on the mount plate made it an easy fit for my Toshiba, took less than a few minutes to finish mounting it in my dad's rv. I got it for an excellent price at 15.99 (A similar mount would be a lot more at the local retail store). It's sturdy and made out of good strong metal. I love how the plate that attaches to the tv can easily slide into the mounting slot. I would say the product description is very accurate. I usually buy my tv accessories on amazon and this product is definitely worth buying in my opinion, especially for the price and quality :).
