Alta Wall Furniture System with Integrated Mount - Espresso Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking to mount my Panasonic 42 inch plasma on the wall in the master bedroom. The Z-line Alta Wall Furniture had the hidden panels for cable management, modern looks, and the style that would match my existing furniture. I had a difficult time finding the maximum dimension of the Z-line TV mount. My Panasonic horizontal mounting holes are about 26 inches apart (or around 660 mm). The Z-line information said it will fit "most" 42 inch LCD/Plasma TVs. I went ahead and ordered the Z-line and hoped my TV fell in the "most" category. Unfortunately, the max you can use with the Z-line is about 400 mm.
I jumped back on the internet and searched for a few days for a flat panel adapter and came up with the Vantage Point ADP42-B Adapter plate for flat panel display (also sold on Amazon). This mount fit perfectly on my Panasonic (think you can go as wide as 27.5 inches). The kit gives you a box full of bolts, washers, and raised rubber spacers to mount on the back of the TV. I was able to mount the TV brackets for the Z-line onto the Vantage Point adaptor well within the 400mm range for the stand. Another plus with the Vantage adaptor is the TV sits a few more inches away from the Z-Line and gave me more room to plug in the power, HDMI cable, and audio out cable (still kinda tight behind there, had to use a mirror to see the RCA plugs).
Mounting the Z-Line was just 4 bolts into the 2X4 stud, adjusting the 1 out of 4 height levels for the TV stand, and 4 small bolts each for the 2 glass shelves. There is plenty of space behind the panels to hide all power/wires. You can also adjust the tilt of the TV to give you a better viewing angle. I also purchased the Omnimount CMK 4 inch cable management covers to hide the wire from the bottom of the Z-line (Amazon also).
I will still rate this product 5 star because of its ease of mounting, looks, and functionality. Z-line should include the max dimension for the mounting bracket and offer a mount kit if your TV mounting holes exceeds the 400mm (around 15 ½ inches).

(More customer reviews)I just put up this unit and installation was easy (came with instructions unlike other poster's experience). The unit is well made, strong, and has ample room for running cables through the center channel and access holes. The only drawback is the depth of the shelves are somewhat short for components that are deep and/or require additional depth due to larger cable plugs (like HDMI cables).
I plan to make some wooden covers (to sit on top of the glass shelves) to provide the extra depth I need.
I would recommend that you simply measure the depth of your components first, including the length of your longest cable plug to ensure this unit will work for you. Otherwise, you will have the front feet of your audio/video components dangling off the front edge of the shelves.

The AS3B is a tri-shelf cable management system. It can be used with or without a Plasma/LCD mount. This unit is designed to fit under your display and provide an on wall solution for other components such as cable boxes, DVD players, game consoles, and stereo components. There are three 2.25-Inch holes on the aluminum plate that allow you to cleanly run your cables up to your TV or down to another component, as well as out the bottom to an outlet. After reviewing our competition we realized that most shelving units need to be mounted directly into a wall stud. In most cases the wall stud is placed to the right or to the left of the display, which is not where most people prefer to have their shelves mounted. This is still the most secure option however, after significant research we've fount that using the correct toggle bolts can allow you to mount your shelving unit wherever you see fit. With the combination of four of these toggle bolts the shelving unit is able to hold well over 70LBS safely. Each individual toggle bolt provides 75LBS of support. Please not that a good toggle bolt is still only as good as the quality of the drywall it is mounted into. If you have water damage or .25-Inch drywall please add a support for your shelving unit.

(More customer reviews)I bought this unit after seeing the reviews of the OmniMount which looked very similar. Below are the steps I took to get a huge bundle of wires cleanly running through the cable channel (will post pics shortly):
1. Place the device on the glass and run the cables through the routing hole.
2. Align the device where it will sit.
3. Mark the cables running through the hole with a line across all of them to mark where they'll be tied together.
4. Remove device, repeat 2,3 for other devices on other platforms.
5. Route all of the cables as previously marked, zip-tie'ing them togther as they work up (or down) the back of the cable channel.
I have the following sitting on the platforms:
1. Mac Mini
2. Panasonic Blu-Ray player
3. HD Tivo
The Tivo is the only device which extends past the glass, however all feet remain on the surface.
Highly recommend this mount - I have 13 various cables going through the channel (coax, power, ethernet, optical audio, dvi), with a little bit more room left.

Wasn't a wood stud where it needed to be installed. I tried using supplied drywall anchors and screws. The plastic anchors messed up using an electric drill and screws were to large.
I had the common problem of creating a rounded out hole to big for the anchors.(stuff happens!) So,I checked my surplus hardware stash and found two metal drywall anchors with the spring loaded wing-nuts that lockup against the inside of the drywall. These are the best for any weight bearing install.
I didn't rate the shelf system 5 stars because of the supplied anchors & screws.
The shelf system was great and goodlooking. A very sturdy shelf holds the cable box and above on the next shelf is my blu-ray player. Adjusting the shelves was easy. I really liked being able to arrange all cables neatly through cableways on each side of the base and behind the shelf holders. This made a nice clean setup. Very pleased with the final results.
I experienced no instability in any of the shelves as I read in some review. This my be because of the use of the supplied anchoring hardware. Before install, go to the hardware store and get better hardware for the drywall. In my opinion, the metal wing-nut toggle bolt type are the best for load bearing shelving.

(More customer reviews)I was initially excited about this product. It seemed to be the best 3 shelf wall mount system; it's not. Though I've not found an alternative yet, I'm looking. The reason behind my disappointment is that the shelves are unrealistically shallow. One needs to consider that the depth of each shelf is shortened when one considered the cables that have to come out of the back of the receiver. For example, an HDMI cable is a high end thick cableand it needs about 1.5" of rear room to be plugged in and bent down or toward it's souce. If you use good speaker cables like Monster, the same holds true, so one looses shelf depth because the distance that the cables use coming out of the back of a receiver wasn't properly accounted for. Perhaps for a home theater in a box it would work fine, but for anyone who has a regular receiver, forget it! Even my DVD player barely fit on it! With home theaters evolving quickly, the consumer needs a true multi shelf wall mount system that accomodates a regular receiver, DVD player & cable/SAT box, as well as a center channel shelf. Well, that and a couple of bucks will get you on the New York subway...

(More customer reviews)After searching and reading reviews, we decided to purchase the Omni-Mount TRIA Silver with clear glass shelves. We needed shelving to go under our wall-mounted flat-screen TV. These shelves, which are designed for lightweight components, work well for this purpose. As other reviewers noted, they will NOT work for small TVs or anything too heavy.
The product arrived in a nicely engineered, well-packed box. We weren't impressed with the instructions - each page is multi-lingual and the pictures are small with poor resolution. That being said, the product itself installed quite a bit easier than we expected and looks really nice.
We found the shelf depth adequately deep for stereo components, DVRs or DVD players. The cord management system was pretty straightforward, and we particularly like that the covers are paintable. We painted the cord covers and the cords coming out of the bottom and going into the outlet. The end result is a very clean, minimalist look for TV or stereo components.

OmniMount TRIA Adjustable 3-Shelf Wall Component System with Cable Management Review

(More customer reviews)I was really hoping that I could work with the covers to hide the cables. I'd read the reviews that said the covers were a challenge, but I really thought I'd be able to work with them.
I was so wrong.
First, there truly is just not enough room behind the covers. Due to the design, I simply couldn't run the cables I need - and I only have a TiVo and a DVD/receiver! (I ended up putting my Wii on it, also, but at that point there were so many cables hanging out it really didn't make a difference.)
In addition to that, the plastic from which the covers were made was far too hard for this application. The covers can't be bent enough to allow you to easily push and pull cables as you need to. A softer plastic would have been more appropriate.
And, as others have mentioned, getting the covers on and keeping them on is a serious challenge. I literally had bruises on my hands and arms where I was pulling, shoving, and pounding. I ended up using a towel to insulate the covers from the impact of the hammer I had to use to get them in place.
Other than the cable covers, though, the unit is solid and well designed. The fact that you can place the shelves at any level you like is very shiny. It really is a pretty set of shelves.
Not so pretty with all the cables hanging out, though. Since that's the reason I bought them, I can't give it more than 2 stars.
I'm now looking for something large to set next to the shelves so no one can see all the cables hanging everywhere. :( More money spent - I should have just bought more expensive shelves.
*sigh* And the marketing pics made it look so nice...
Oh, and one suggestion: measure your components. These shelves are actually ~17" wide and you have about 13-14" of depth, at most. I made the mistake of trusting the dimensions listed on the description. (I think that's the packaging's size.) My DVD/receiver unit is constantly sliding off because the feet hang over the front. I'm going to have to find some rubber pads to put under it to hold it in place.
