The bowl is a lovely beaten copper. Even with a fire burning in it, the rim is not too hot to touch, so you don't have to worry about little kids touching it and burning themselves. With this type of fire pit, the heat dissipates in all directions and cools from the bottom, so it is not as warm as a camp fire. But on your patio, you don't want it to be. It is portable enough to take along to other places. Easy to clean. I am crazy about it.

The pit itself is nice and deep & sturdy so there is plenty of room for logs without the worry of it tipping over. The copper is a bit thinner than I expected but I'm not sure YET if that matters. Some other reviews mentioned that the mesh cover melts so I've been too chicken to put it on as the fire is blazing. You can't make a decent s'more with the cover on anyway :)

(More customer reviews)I'm an experienced installer, with 11 years in the industry.
Fortunately this product was purchased for my own home. If I had to bill one of my clients for installing a defective product, the time and money spent would have been substantially greater.
1) Due to the design of the center clips that hold up the bar, it is impossible to overlap the screens in the center, let alone have them meet in the middle.
2) The instructions are confusing, and what photos there are, are to small to decipher what is being described.
3) The 'cool touch' screen pulls were missing.
4) The screen did not fit the 30" high opening. They were too long, even thought the package stated it was for a 30" opening. It is recommended that you "bend the hangar tabs back, to raise the screen". Not only did this crude adjustment not raise them as much as it said it would, if it did, the screen would bind as it is being scraped along the underside of the valance.
5) The telescoping valance is made from flimsy sheet metal that will wound you if you are not careful. The notch formed by the seams make it look cheap and one size fits all.
I hope that I have saved someone the time and frustration of dealing with this product.

(More customer reviews)After leaving my copper firepit with the vinyl protective cover on for the winter season, the spark screen (that originally came with the firepit) rusted and crumbled apart. It was on Amazon that I found a suitable replacement spark screen (very hard to find just the screen for sale)that was the right size and basically exactly like the one I had before.
The only problem I would have is the price - $80!
I didn't pay much more than that for the whole firepit (complete with screen).
I guess that is what one can expect for hard to find items.
Other than that, very satisfied with the product (though photo doesn't show it is a hinged screen and description is vague)
