(More customer reviews)I bought one of these about 5 years ago. It is well built, not too heavy and a great fire pit. Have loaded it up and taken it camping many times. There are several others that look similar but I believe they don't match the quality of this fire pit. We use this almost every weekend except during the hot summer evenings. We have burned at least 3 cords of wood in it and it still looks like it did when we bought it. We did have to purchase another spark screen, we burned through the other one but after that many fires, it wasn't unexpected.

Good Directions 770 Copper Fire Pit Review

(More customer reviews)The copper pan actually weighs 10.5 lbs and seems heavy-duty enough, but I don't plan to throw it around. Legs weigh 5#, grate weighs 19#, and the large size dome spark screen (separate purchase) weighs 14#. Other measurements: Leg unit 7" high, 26" diam; Grate 31.25" diam, which is the size of the top ledge in the copper pan. There is a second ledge part way down the slope of the pan, at 22.5", and a third, not quite so clear cut, at 17", each of which can accommodate a charcoal grate for barbecueing.
The hinged dome spark screen sits on the grate, not the copper pan, fitting inside those 4 little fingers sticking up from the grate, thus holding it securely even when I rather roughly tossed the hinged part through its arc during our first fire. The front half of the screen slides up and over, into the back half of the screen, and it moves easily.
Our wood fire burned very well, very clean, because the high grate lets it get plenty of air. Haven't tried charcoal lower down in the pan yet. The copper does change color with high heat & flames, but that looks just fine to me, though others who expect it to stay perfectly shiny may be forewarned.
The screen stopped major sparks, but did let tiny ones through, especially through the open space under the top/back half and above the lower/front half. So to be safe here in tinder-dry country, we'll only burn wood in it after the rains have dampened the wildlands nearby. We had one rainy evening and got to try it out thanks to the rain. I'm actually considering getting the extra-large dome screen available elsewhere to put on top of the large size one for double coverage and then maybe we could enjoy this pretty fire pit even now in the dryest part of the year. Not sure what CalFire would say about that. It might just fit, though, since the large screen actually measures 1.5 inches less in diameter than the 30.5" listed (that measurement includes the 1.5" handle) and so I imagine the x-lg screen, listed at 37" is probably truly 35.5" in diameter, which is exactly the actual width of the large copper pan (not 36" as listed).

(More customer reviews)I recently gave this as a gift. it shipped without any damage. setup was easy and took about 12 min with 2 people. it looked great and pretty well made. i did a fair amount of research before choosing this one, and read a lot of horror stories of fire bowls rusting through within a year, but this one seemed to be of good quality for the money. i still recommend getting a weatherproof cover for it if you plan on leaving it outside for any extended periods. after a little more than a month, its holding up just fine.

We are very carefull with this and the mesh screen again rusted out. We called the company and the mesh screen is not covered by the limited warranty and is very expensive to replace. we love this item but the next one will be stainless steel,even though it is more expensive.

(More customer reviews)Let me start by saying that this review by no means reflects the great service I received from Amazon. Nevertheless, it's the first item I ever had to ship back to Amazon due to item having significant difference between it's description and what I got.
I also find the reviews to be overly favorable such as "Envy of our Neighborhood" and not reflecting the lack of quality of this unit.
To start, let's talk about "Oil-rubbed Bronze", I was quite excited with anticipation of getting a distinguished fire-pit made of Bronze. What I got instead, was a painted finish over a thin sheet of metal which by no means resembled Bronze. Handles are made of even thinner pliable metal as well, with the same "inexpensive" (reads cheap) painted finish look. The screen on the lid, is also unacceptably thin and can not hold shape to the slightest hand pressure, which makes me wonder how it could ever last after exposure to high heat.
The total weight of this unit is about 44-45 lbs, compare that to an 80-100 lbs unit from your local HW store so you can guess how inexpensively it's made. Metal thickness is quite thin, and comparing to other fire-pits of cast iron or other cast metal, will not withstand continuous exposure to high heat.
In a nutshell, do some research with comparable units or be prepared to be disappointed. I'm also quite disappointed with the positive reviews, as they were the main reason I purchased it in the first place, and also the reason I wanted to write this review to set the record straight.

Also, the tile panels don't line up, the pan in the middle is out of round, and it generally looks cheap for a $300 piece of hardware. The one good part, as usual, is Amazon. Word of advice, do not purchase the Veranda 44" fire pit cover that is pictured with this fire pit. It DOES NOT fit. It barely fits over the ring at the upper part of the pit. The cover would definitely fit the Big Sky (smaller version of the Super Sky) Fire Pit.

Weber 2726 Wood Burning Fireplace Review

(More customer reviews)I had shopped around for a patio fireplace for a couple of years. I didn't like any of the ones sold in the chain stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Target, Sears, etc.). They were poorly built and looked like they would rust out quickly. The more quality built ones were too expensive for what essentially is just a fire ring. I stumbled across the Weber Wood Burning Fireplace and after a little research purchased it. Like all things Weber, it isn't the most flashy or even the best but it is well designed, sturdy, and should last for years. We have used ours once and I will share a number of observations and comments on previous reviews.
First, the small aluminum bowl underneath the fire bowl is not an ash catcher. It is a heat shield. This fireplace should not be used on a wood or composite deck. We have a brick patio and it is safely used there.
Second, where we live (Central, OH) there is no need for a screen around the fireplace. Perhaps in more fire prone areas it would be a good idea, but then again, should you have an open fire in those areas? For my uses a screen is not useful or needed and would just make adding fuel more difficult.
Third, to the commenter who said the fireplace is too smokey, it's the green wood you burned that produced the smoke, not the fireplace. I used well seasoned wood as anyone should and it produced about as much smoke as one would expect.
Fourth, you do not need to use the lid but there is one major advantage to doing so when the weather is cool: the lid helps direct heat down rather than allowing it all to rise quickly. In other words, it keeps more heat down at chair level when you're sitting around the fireplace.
Fifth, the lid does indeed smother the fire quickly. The lid is just tight enough to smother the fire. That's a huge plus since it means you don't have to wait until the fire dies out on its own to go inside. Nor do you have to douse the fire with water to put it out. In the case of this product, I'd recommend you don't do that anyway unless you want to ruin the porcelain finish.
Sixth, it took about 30 minutes to assemble. Even though the handles are wooden, you will still need heavy gloves to move the lid out of the way and move the riser. I have the 2010 model and the handles are sturdy and solid.

Landmann USA 28925 Ball of Fire Outdoor Fireplace Review

(More customer reviews)I looked on line and in the common stores for a large fire pit that would allow bigger fires and still meet local fire codes for fully covered and contained burning and opted for the Landmann Ball of Fire for several reasons. First, it was at a great price for $189 free delivery, second it was solidly built, third you could open it up and add wood and keep the cover closed to contain embers and debris (some of the other fire pits said not to put the wire mesh cover on them while burning your fire... huh?), forth the shape was nice since I put limestone rocks around the base to make it look built in and add stability. The fire ball is deep enough to allow for small logs, but the viewing space allows you to have smaller fires that are still visible 360 degrees. All in all assembly was easy to do and it came with a free cover to keep it protected from the rain/snow. Very nice and highly recommended!

30 Inch Tahoe Fire Pit Review

(More customer reviews)We bought the Tahoe about 7 years ago and it has been the perfect fix. Durable, solid construction and it has even stood up to some severe New England winters. Unlike the other review here, we do not find this a portable fire pit. At 120 pounds, we place in the back yard and keep it there.
The only drawback is getting a replacment parts. All the local vendors out East have gone away and left us customers without service.

Landmann Heatwave Outdoor Fireplace Review

(More customer reviews)This is a heavy duty outdoor fireplace. It does not have the elegance of copper or the newer simulated stone fireplaces. This product is highly flexible, it accommodates full size logs at a proper height for a good fire. Some fireplaces have a small fire box which limits the size of the fire to the point that you can not generate a lot of heat or use the safety screen on the fireplace.
This is my second fireplace from this manufacturer. I would recommend two improvements to this item. One would be an access door so that you do not have to lift the lid the add more wood (or to roast marshmallows). The second would be to make the wire mesh heavier as it oxidizes a little too quickly. This second issue is easily improved by spraying the mesh with fire resistant paint before using the product.
Both of these issues are minor problems and are mentioned in the hopes that the manufacturer improves the product by the time that I am ready to purchase a replacement for my current fireplace.
BTW, I shopped extensively before purchasing this current fireplace. It has by far the best combination of features which I desired in an outdoor fireplace.

Char-Broil Trentino Deluxe Outdoor Fireplace Review

(More customer reviews)First I'll start with how the product arrived from Amazon. When the UPS guy took it off the truck the box was falling apart and the end was ready to split wide open. It made it about 20ft. to my back porch where the end did split open. I guess you could say it made it to where it had to but this thing is heavy and should be in heavier corrugate for the outer pack box.
All parts are porcelain coated or ceramic and are made from heavy gauge steel. Nothing flexes or bends when you pick it up by an edge. Very nice.
Assembly is very easy and can be done with a Phillips head and a 7/16" wrench / socket combination. The bottom is raised which is very nice as it places the fire and the heat off the ground or surface you are placing it on.
Once assembled it is very heavy and awkward to move by yourself so have it in place first or have a helper or two, as I said it's heavy gauge steel coated with porcelain.
Once I had it in place we began using it that night. The one thing that became a bit of a problem was that even though it's larger than most and can accommodate larger pieces of wood.... when you put a piece in, even if it just bumps the side slightly the sides pop open. There is nothing holding the sides on other than 2 slots in the bottom, the top is free to fall outward whenever, it's just the slight angle that holds them there. Would have been nice to see a small latch, magnet or something. What I ended up doing was putting a piece of wire on the sides I don't open often and leaving one side open for loading. That way I can just unhook the wire end and open up for cleaning.
I have had several large fires in this that lasted hours through the night and had the bottom glowing a nice orange. It holds up well without warping at all. Again, very nice.
After I had a fire going for about 3 hours I placed my hand near, then on the bottom metal. Barely warm. This would be very nice if you were placing on a patio or deck as I have not experienced it getting hot at all on the bottom.
The other nice thing is that all sides are removable for loading, toasting marshmallows or cleaning.
Overall I give this 4 stars ONLY because the sides have no latch to keep them from popping open. Be careful when having people sitting around it if this happens as something could spill out. Add a piece of wire or your own latch and it's perfect!

ours is black, which we like because so is our iron deck furniture. so it matches nicely.
it looks good sitting on the deck. up close, when putting it together, you see some flaws. little nicks here and there, the weld where the side meats the bottom. also the protective loop does not align very well. I got picky and spent a lot of time bending it here and there to make it fit tight and flush. had to do the same with the spark screen thing too. as it was so out of round, it woudl not fit on at first.
One thing, at the end of the instructions, just when you are getting excited to fire it up, they tell you to add 5lbs of sand to the bottom. the reason being, to help insulated the surface below(grass, deck, etc) from the heat, and to keep the ash form corroding the bottom of the fire pit. DARN! I wish it said make sure to buy 5lbs of sand while I was buying it at the store! now I got to go get sand.
also, do not leave it in the rain, do not allow it to fill with water as it may shorten its life - corrosion again. I think they need to anodize these things! so make sure you cover it, or put it away, out of the rain.
nice thing, it has a nice grill, as in you can use it to cook on with the supplied grill rack. Nice! and it also has a spark screen and a poker/handle to remove a hot screen with. a lot of fire pits do not include them.

(More customer reviews)This is a pretty good fire pit. It's nice to be able to cook dogs, burgers, steaks or whatever on it. Have to make sure you let the fire burn down to coals first. You may think you don't have enough coals to cook anything, but let me tell you, you have more than enough. Star design on side is pretty cool. Have used it a few times so far and everything is good. Easy to put together too. Built pretty solid. Not flimsy. Fold out trays on side are great for setting food on before you cook or keeping it warm afterwards.
