(More customer reviews)I searched and searched and could not find a "cut-to-fit" sunscreen big enough to actually cover the back side window of my SUV. So this was my only option. It is advertized as being very easy to apply, but that is only if conditions are perfect. If it is cold out, it will not stick, it can "loose it's statc charge", ect. You can still apply it when it's cold and there is no charge, you just cut it to approx. size and throw it in your dryer for a few minutes. Then you put it on a VERY clean window, smooth and cut it to size with an exacto knife.
To put it on, you should go very slowly, because it's super plyable and will wrinkle, bubble and crease very easily (especially right out of the dryer). I have a small (credit card sized) rubber squeegie that worked great, I really think you need a tool to get it properly affixed.
A tip to getting it on with a little extra working time is to fill a spray bottle with water and just a dab of dish soap. Spritz it all over the window, then apply. As your sticking it on (from the center out usually works the best) you squeegie the soapy water out (sometimes if you use a lot you can wipe it up a little as you go). This is how they put vinyl graphics on cars and whatnot, it works pretty well. You can also throw the whole thing on the window when you do it like that and then smooth it out.
This roll was big enough to do the entire window (I have an Xterra) and the small wedge-shaped window behind it. It can roll up and down with no problem. The small one has lost it's "static charge" once and just fell off. I repeated the process and it went right back up.
They say you can apply this to the outside too for greater sun blocking. I don't see how that could even be possible because of how it peels up when it looses it's cling. Maybe in warmer weather it would stay plyable and on, but in CT it doesn't want to stay on cold windows as much and I think it would just rip right off the car the minute I started driving.
Other than that, I still recommend it if you want something better looking than those roll down shades and less obvious than the square suction cup ones. This is very effective at blocking the sun and discouraging my daughter from looking at things whipping by her window (very car-sick prone), but not obvious enough for her to try to grab at it or complain about it.
