(More customer reviews)I have had this Kittywalk gazebo and the Kittywalk lawn enclosure for several years. Today I went to work and when I came home, one of my outdoor cats had gotten into the Kittywalk and somehow got her claws stuck in the netting. She was hanging there, dead, when I came home. I don't know what happened, but I do know that it was my fault for leaving the zip enclosure open so she could get in. Why she did, I do not know. She apparently got her claws wrapped in the netting and I don't know if she had a heart attack or what, but she was gone by the time I go home. I only used it for my declawed indoor-only kitty, and he was fine with it. Now I would never use it for *any* cat again, unless you are sitting and monitoring them. I should have closed the opening, but I never dreamed she would jump in and get stuck like that. Just too many ways a cat can get tangled in the webbing, and this time not even the cat that we confined to it. Maybe something chased her in there....I don't know, but it isn't safe enough unless you are standing right there, and even then, her toes were so wrapped in the netting, I would think that it would not be long before you might find your cat in serious distress if this happened to you. Not worth it.
I decided to update this after speaking with my vet. Apparently she has seen another case where a cat became entangled in the netting by getting its head wedged in the opening, and this poor cat strangled to death in a few short minutes, in front of the horrified owner who could not rescue the cat in time. She feels that it is not a reasonable assumption (as the manufacturer recommends) that users will clip their cats' claws prior to placing them in a Kittywalk enclosure, and doubts that even clipping the claws could prevent the kind of entanglement I witnessed and certainly could not prevent strangulation. I don't think any cat should be placed in one of these enclosures even if you are sitting there and watching them....and I would wager most people are not monitoring their cats that closely.

Achla Model RB-01 Rain Catcher 54-US Gallon Water Barrel Review

(More customer reviews)It's green, it's a barrel. Quite simply, the product description says it all. Except - the hose that comes with the barrel is feeble, it kinks and blocks within seconds (hose pipe, not drain pipe or connector) I'd recommend replacing it with a better quality version.
Also, the clip meant to keep the hose attached to the top of the barrel is useless, it slips out just as soon as you use it - I ended up hooking a hose coupler and connecting all the outlets together, one hose supplied by 3 barrels, which solved that issue.
Why 5 stars if I have these bad comments? Well, they're easy fixes. I have a well for all my household water needs, so I am making an investment. Plus, to keep these things in your garden and really use them effectively, you have to fit them to your own needs.
There's a few reasons why I chose this barrel over other ones available:
- Has a nice open top so you don't have to play about getting it lined up with the downspout. Most the other styles I looked at had a small opening that needed to be lined up directly with the down spout.
- SAFETY! Yes, the top of the barrel is 'open', but it is formed with a rigid spoke pattern - almost like a bicycle wheel - you'd have trouble putting your arm (or anything else) through it into the water.
- Debris screen. I like gardening, but I'm not keen on clearing out my gutters... The screen 'lid' supplied does a great job at keeping most junk out of the barrel itself. It also stops the neighborhood mosquito's from setting up daycare in the barrel...
- Flat back - the back of this barrel is flat - sits nicely up against the outside of the house (if that's what you want).
- Solid construction - made of thicker plastic than most the others I looked at.
- Outlet positioning - the hose connection for these barrels is about 1" from the bottom of the barrel, you can drain it to empty. All but one of the other styles I looked at had the outlet 5 or 6" above the bottom. That means you can't drain the thing all the way, wasting water.
So far, we have 3 hooked up together from one downspout, 2 hooked up together from another. Over the past 2 summer seasons, I have not needed to hook the garden hose to the mains water. I even washed the family cars with the saved water too.
Three years later ... Still going strong.
Winter care: Empty them out and turn them upside down (or put a fully closed cover over the tops) in the winter, if these freeze full or more than half full you'll damage them!
As you would expect with anything left out in the elements all year around, they do collect a little 'silt' or grow gunk on the insides. It's not too much trouble to hose these out or use a rag on the end of a stick to wipe the insides clean once a year... it goes a long way to stopping any funky smell when you use the water!

(More customer reviews)I have looked far and wide for a decent & usable weather station and unfortunately this one was not it. From the list of features it seemed like it would do the 3 simple seemingly simple tasks I needed it to do:
1. Display the current Indoor & Outdoor Temperature at the same time.
2. Quickly give me a preview of the day's weather so I can dress accordingly.
3. Have a self-setting alarm clock that can be read at night.
Honestly for $120, I was amazed at how badly this unit failed at all three.
It does display the indoor temperature in the upper right hand corner, but the outdoor temperature is only displayed every 20 seconds or so. There is a button that you can press to briefly display the outdoor temperature, but you have to press fairly hard and since the unit is light weight, you normally have to pick it up to avoid pushing it across the table. The main display (where the weather is forecast) cycles through several different screens; telling you the temperature for the morning, the middle of the day and the evening. Then the unit cycles through the wind speed & directions, wind gusts, etc. You have to spend about a minute or so watching the thing hoping to catch the information you are interested in. Unfortunately there is no way to set it to display only the information you want to see and skip all the rest.
Finally I spent the extra money for this model because it has a backlight so that it can be read at night. You have to press a button for it to come on, but it is oddly placed so you have to fumble around in the dark, knock the thing over, pick it up, fumble & find the button to see what time it is. And on top of all that, the contrast on the LCD screen is not adjustable. This unit is meant to be placed on a countertop and read from a standing position. It is not visible from across the room or if you are at the same level as the display. So if you plan on sitting this on your night-stand, you won't be able to read it. (I have perfect 20-20 vision by the way.)
Bottom line: It takes so much time to find out the information you want from this thing, you might as well turn on the TV. What is supposed to be a wealth of information at a glance, is just frustrating to use.
I sent mine back after a week.

Tropic Screen II Review

(More customer reviews)i am a tropical rainforest ecologist and work 25 km in to the forest (sleeping on a open but roofed platform)... so, i need a light mosquito-proof tent. this tent seemed the perfect match at a great price (best price ($[...]) i found was [...]). i had put it up once quickly in my living room to test it and all was well. unfortunately, while putting it up in the field, the poles split under the normal pressure of assembly forcing me to do some quick fix jerry-rigging (got killed by the mosquitos) in the field.
so, let me summarize some points:
a. very light and compact by tent standards
b. fabric is strong and zipper/fabric worked great
c. the poles are the cheaper ones with external interconnecting metal sheaths so the sheaths catch on the tent sleeves as you feed them through.
d. both poles failed under normal usage!!!! - this is the weak (make or break) aspect of this tent.
e. the tent model tropic screen II (despite the photo) is now all black; almost no one has updated the photo.
f. when i returned home, I called the place i bought it ([...]) and told them about the faulty tent poles. without my need of returning them, they contacted the manufacturer (atwater carey) and without another word, AC had a new set of poles to me within days. no questions asked, no cost to me.
i strongly recommend the tent BUT with the additional strong recommendation that you pre-test and stress these poles BEFORE getting out into the mosquito-infested field.

I was pleased to see this product come along since the dimensions are larger than competitors. You also can't beat the price. The item appears very well made and likely to last for some time. I found it easy to put up and take down, and I usually struggle with assembling anything. I put it up inside the house for a few days with their favorite scratch posts, blankets, and some catnip inside so they could get used to it first, then tried the experiment this evening. They loved it! I was surprised and thought at least one cat would be frightened, eager to return inside, or desperately trying to figure a way out. Instead, they were all stimulated yet content, and they even carried themselves differently for the rest of the evening, like they remembered who they really were or something! Check out the pictures of them and you'll see what I mean.
Please consider purchasing this or a similar item for your indoor cats to enrich their lives. I don't trust them outdoors unprotected but this gives them a chance to smell fresh air, feel the sunshine on their backs, and get back in touch with who they really are--wild, outdoor animals! Very highly recommended! My only regret is that now one is pestering me to go back out, and I do have to physically carry him out to zip him into the habitat vs. the similar items that can attach to the pet door. He also tried to run back outside whenever I was bringing the folded up Happy Habitat back inside, so I might have opened Pandora's box.
