Krups 026-33 Gold Tone Coffee Filter Review

(More customer reviews)We had to go back to paper filters while our coffee pot and Krups gold filter were in storage during a move. So I had a chance to compare, again, the gold filter versus the paper cones. Here are my observations:
1. It is a pain to remember to buy filters, and sometimes the grocery store is out of stock. I like the brown unbleached filters and those are not always available.
2. If you use this gold-coated filter, you should NOT grind your coffee too fine. (We grind our own in a small electric mill.) The filter allows somewhat more sediment through than the paper variety. I don't like finding even a small amount of sludge at the bottom of my mug. A careful grind does take care of this problem, however.
4. Despite the fact that gold is relatively inert and stainless, it doesn't hurt to rub down the filter and plastic with a paste of baking soda and water, once a week. This removes any bad-tasting residue that can accumulate.
All in all, when we unpacked our filter and started using it again, I was very happy. It saves paper, money and time. I recommend it if you have a cone-filter type coffee pot.

Braun Brita Patented KWF2 Water Filter (2-Pack) Review

If you go to the Braun Web site and want to search for your model coffee maker, be aware that Braun thinks these are two word model numbers. Their search engine wants you to enter KF + 157 for the KF157 model.
The filters work. We like them more for the hard water problem than the chlorine issue. The filter does both well. Just pricey.

Swissgold Gold Foil Filter 12-c. Review

(More customer reviews)I own two of these, for a Melitta Clarity and Presto Scandinavian Design coffee makers. The difference in taste between these and paper filters is unimaginable. It's not the same as French pressed coffee: not as thick mouthfeel, brighter. The SwissGold filter is fine enough that there is very little sediment, a problem cheaper (Krups) knock-offs suffer badly from.
The filter has an indented rim to let you pick it up, rather than a handle. This lets it fit into more machines, at the cost of making it less convenient to remove while hot from machines that don't have a detachable filter holder (both of mine do, so it's kind of moot for me).
One thing the write-up doesn't mention is that there is an extension ring hiding in the box under the little cardboard bit the filters sits in. I have never needed it, but I imagine there are coffee machines where it would help.

Swissgold KF 300 One-Cup Coffee Filter Review

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent solution if you like a small-ish (8-10 oz or less) and convenient cup of coffee in the morning. My experience is that no automatic drip maker is really designed to make a good single cup, and while I use a french press on the weekends, cleaning the screen assembly is too much hassle for a weekday morning, as is having to mind the infusion time. So the swissgold one-cup is an excellent compromise. There's no brew time to pay attention to, it's very easy to rinse everything clean under the tap, and you don't have to buy or throw away paper filters!
My only complaint (hence the 4 stars rather than 5) is that the infusion time seems very short -- the cup is usually done brewing in about a minute or less -- and the coffee does lack body as a result. I wonder if the filter might have been designed to slow down brewing a bit more. In any case, I just use a fairly fine grind, like one of the other reviewers here said, and end up with very decent coffee with a minimum of hassle.

(More customer reviews)This filter works very well if you like strong coffee. A thin film of oil from the beans will end up in your coffee, and it lets through more richness than a paper filter. It also lasts a long time, and you won't have to purchase paper filters, which probably helps the environment over the long-run. Ours seem to last quite a while (a year or more?) and you can also put it in the dishwasher, which is a good idea to remove some of the residue. (Oily residue build-up in both the filter and coffee maker will cause your coffee to be bitter.) All in all, we are very happy with these filters and will continue purchasing them again and again.
