(More customer reviews)I rate safety equipment on two criteria: safety itself, of course, and usability. The Stihl gets 4 stars on safety. It's a good-quality hard hat, an effective, durable and strong face shield, and good hearing protection.
Usability is a ratings issue for safety equipment because it directly impacts how willing a user is to actually use the item. I downgrade the rating on this helmet just a bit on usability issues. It has two problems. The first is that the headband is a little oddly-shaped. Unlike any other helmet I've used, the back of the band hits high on my head. While it has never come off, it never feels quite secure enough. The second is the hearing protectors. They work very well in the sound protection sense, but they do not hold their settings and are fussy to swing up onto the helmet. You wind up having to put the saw down and use two hands to swing them up, or to readjust the fit when swinging them down again.
They are a good value for the money, in spite of issues above.
