(More customer reviews)I liked this product because it is a quality product made out of mostly recycled material. It looks nice and works well. I was a little disappointed when I received the product because it did not have a screen mesh bottom as described. I look for this in bird feeds because it makes it easy to clean the feeder. Amazon should fix the description. I would have bought a more expensive feed just to get this feature.

(More customer reviews)I gotta admit, I was drawn into the concept that it serves 2 purposes although the first being that of an attractive lawn ornament works just fine. The other as a bird feeder is not that good. If the entire front face would open that would be one thing, but the tiny slot on top (which won't stay on too well) is where the food goes.
It is of very strong durable construction which is great. No problem with that.

(More customer reviews)I had a feeder with four socks that attracted vast flocks of finches, right outside my window, and I loved it. What I didn't love was the huge piles of seed that spilled out every day. Far more seed was wasted than eaten.
This feeder can't hold as many finches as four long socks, obviously, but I've counted 8 or 9 at a time clustered around it. And spillage can't be more than about one twentieth of the old feeder. This thing is sturdy, and the lid comes off easily for refilling.
Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this feeder as an addition to another of the same style I've owned for the past 2 years. These feeders with their stainless steel mesh and non-ferrous metal painted tops and bottoms are very durable. Over the past 2 years in constant exposure to the elements, I've only noticed some fading of the paint, but of course no rust. The only thing I've added was a couple of perches protruding at right angles to each other through the mesh. I made them out of #8 stainless steel threaded stock and secured them with the appropriate sized stainless hex nuts. I really recommend these feeders; I've always got lots of customers feeding on the perches.

Duncraft 1744 Champion Squirrel Blocker Platform Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)We have had the less expensive plastic version of this feeder for a few years. It has been a good feeder, but it's finally disintegrated. We bought the all-metal Champion feeder as a replacement. Duncraft has addressed all the design deficiencies of the previous plastic version:
- The mesh at the bottom of the unit is much smaller, so seeds won't fall through as easily. With the previous plastic version, we had to insert a piece of window screen material to keep seeds from falling through the larger holes in the mesh, and that meant one more item to clean.
- The white grid is now a one-piece epoxy-coated metal unit, and is more rigid than the previous two-piece metal and plastic grid. It can be cleaned easily with a bottle brush.
- The roof is metal, which will avoid the problem with the previous version of the roof cracking where the metal vertical supports were inserted, as well as avoid the problem of the plastic mottling and fading.
The bottom line is that this is an improved version of what was already a good feeder. We recommend it.
