(More customer reviews)Just a warning to other parents. We purchased this item and found it to be very unsafe. There is no way to lock the strap. Once it is tightened in place, all that is needed to untighten it is to pull on it, meaning the furniture could easily still topple over. Also, the sewn end of the strap pulled apart and came off from the bracket during its first use. I'm just glad this didn't happen after we had installed it. I would highly recommend looking for another product.

It also ended up being very useful at Christmas time for closing off the end of the room where the tree and presents were. The hinged sections, along with the fence's rigidity, make it very versatile in closing off larger areas. It is also the only fence we found that seemed attractive enough to leave up in our living room for a few years. The fence also comes with hardware to attach one or both ends to a wall, making it more secure.

(More customer reviews)These things are great. If you've got banisters, stair rails, balustrades, second floor, basement, decks, whatever, you need these. The banister in our two-story house had gaps between the upright posts that were bigger than, say, the tiny gaps now mandated for cribs. The worry, of course, is that a baby or toddler could squeeze between the gaps and take a bad fall. And gaps that don't look that big might be large enough for a head to get stuck between, even if the shoulders won't go through. We found that the netting stayed nice and tight, although you should check the securing ropes periodically. My only complaint is that the nets are not terrific-looking, but if you've already got baby gates, outlet covers, cabinet locks and all the rest of it, you're not going to care much about the look. The added safety in your home is worth the short-term aesthetics hit.

Our house is situated so we can get a great breeze with the front door and sliding glass patio door open, but the flimsy sliding screen and 3 steps down to the patio were a little dangerous for our 17 month old. I was disappointed to think of a summer with the patio door kept closed, until I found this gate as an option. The gate is easy to install and remove-we didn't have any problem with scratching as other reviewers mentioned. It is sturdy, and our son is unable to open it. Does take 2 adult hands to push the pin, and lift the handle to open the gate, so hard to do if you're holding a child. Great purchase all around!
