(More customer reviews)I gave it four stars because although it did not work vary well for what I bought it for I did find a good use for it. I bought this with the intention of using it in my mash tun that I was building using a keg shell. However the 10" diameter is vary small for a 16 gal keg. It is not as efficient because it sits so low in the concave bottom of the keg that half of you mash is not sitting on the false bottom it is resting on the side walls of the concave bottom of the keg. I have found a better way to go for a mash tun is to use one that is 12"-13" in diameter and and cut it in half and add hinges so that it can be folded and taken out. You can then drill a hole in it and use the same type of stainless tubing to reach the bottom of the keg. This way all of you mash is sitting on the false bottom and your sparge water can be drawn more evenly through more of you mash. This small 10" design did work well in the bottom of my boil kettle (also a converted keg) as a hop filter.

This Weldless Mash Keg Conversion Kit is a great way to turn that 15.5 gallon keg you have into an efficient mash tun, or as a very effective whole hop filter in your boil kettle! The ball valve is 1/2" Full Port, so your wort can flow through unrestricted. On the backside of the ball valve is a stainless pick-up tube, which allows for the collection of the wort underneath the 11 3/4-inch diameter contoured mash screen. This way, you get maximum yield from your mash tun. Requires a 7/8" drill bit to install. Comes with 1/2 inch barb fitting.
